Finishing
| After the axle receives a status indicator, it is shipped to an axle finish shop where it is placed in a roughening lathe. The finishing lathe makes a second cut leaving room for the grinding operation. Axle faces are conditioned to remove roughing processing marks and the axles are drilled and tapped with three bolt holes in the axle ends used to secure the journal bearings. |

Grinding
| During the grinding operation, the grinder finishes to a tolerance plus or minus one half thousandths of an inch. The grinder operator will check for size with a temperature compensating micrometer. After grinding, the axle goes to a mandatory hold point. It is 100% inspected. |
